Find Out More About the Masterpiece of Sejauh Mata Memandang
We
know that nowadays waste is one of the most crucial things in Indonesia.
Garbage can pollute the environment to have an impact on human health. To
minimize this, it is necessary to manage waste from the source. One of the
things that have been done to reduce waste today is recycling. Recycling can be interpreted as the reprocessing of materials that have been used into a
product of high economic value. Talking about products, this time I want to
share the story of a local fashion brand that uses recycled textiles made from
pre-consumed waste that is processed into new materials.
Starting from an
Instagram video that appeared on my homepage, I became interested in following
a local fashion brand named Sejauh Mata Memandang. Sejauh Mata Memandang,
creating a fashion brand with the concept of slow fashion is one way to reduce
textile waste. They create clothing from biodegradable materials, utilize
leftover fabrics, and modify the use value of the fabrics. This was done by the
founder of this fashion brand as a commitment to invite consumers to help save
the environment. They also don't use skin or fur in their products to protect
animals.
Apart from selling
fashion products, Sejauh Mata Memandang also often holds exhibitions.
The exhibition they held was certainly not far from the original purpose of its
establishment, which is to save the environment from waste. This can be seen from
the several themes raised in the exhibitions they held, including an
educational exhibition on waste selection entitled “Bumi Rumah Kita”, textile
waste emergency with the title “Sayang Sandang, Sayang
Alam”, and one of the
exhibitions I have attended is “ Kisah Punah Kita” in ARTJOG 2022
which was held at the Jogja National Museum last August. I hope from this story we can all be more aware of waste management.
Waste management is a serious thing in Indonesia, this is a brilliant innovation!!
