Getting to Know the Yogyakarta Special Region Historical Archives Museum
Four days of visiting the Special
Region of Yogyakarta, I did not miss the moment to go to a place that I think
is very cool and unique. This place is located in the Banguntapan, Bantul
Regency, precisely in the Depo Archive DPAD DIY Building. Previously, I did
not know exactly about the place I was going to visit, whether it was a museum
or another type. I just saw a glimpse of the video on one of my social media platforms and was immediately attracted to visit this place.
Diorama Arsip Jogja
Diorama Arsip Jogja is a relatively new historical archive museum of the
Special Region of Yogyakarta. Inaugurated on Thursday, February 24, 2022, this
place has a very unique concept. The combination of archives, art, and
technology is expected to be able to attract visitors, especially students, and researchers to deepen the history of DIY. The place provides access
to an extensive historical archive and is presented in a coherent manner from
the Panembahan Senopati period to the Special City of Yogyakarta.
18 History Rooms
The
presentation of history in the Jogja Archives Diorama is arranged coherently in
18 rooms. Some of the early rooms show the early history of Yogyakarta which are
presented with additional animation screens, scripts, and paintings so that
visitors can easily understand the history of Yogyakarta. Going deeper, the diorama
room displays a new colonial phase, namely the industrial period and the modern
era in various aspects of Yogyakarta. Then in room 17, there is a video
reenactment that shows the sad times of the city of Yogyakarta, one of which is
the Merapi Eruption. At the end of the last room is the Special Room of
Yogyakarta. Visitors are presented with a video display of messages from
residents about the city of Yogyakarta.
Visiting Diorama Arsip Jogja
Packaged
with the aim of bringing the history of Yogyakarta City to life, Diorama is a
place that can be visited for free. Visitors only need to register on the Jogja
archive website to make a visit reservation. There will be several choices of
sessions to visit the Jogja archives starting at 09.20a.m -14.00p.m. To make a
reservation, I suggest doing it in advance because the tickets run out efficiently.
This is because each visitation session is limited to only 20 visitors. If you
have already ordered tickets online, you can come according to the session you
have chosen. Come half an hour before the scheduled time to re-register and
also take a visitor id card that will be used while you are in the diorama
room. There will be a guide who will explain the history of the Special Region
of Yogyakarta from beginning to end so that visitors don't have to worry if
they don't understand and want to ask questions. On average, exploring the
diorama room will take approximately 100 minutes which certainly doesn't feel
that long because the room is presented uniquely so it doesn't make visitors
bored quickly.
Thanks for sharing the nice experience in Jogjakarta.
